Transparent Background FaceBook Pic

I wanted to add my logo as my FaceBook pic today but didn’t want that ugly white box around it, so I created this little background image to fit in perfectly with the FaceBook layout.

picture-2

Download the file here and just slap your own image on top, save as a JPG and upload to your FaceBook profile.

CushyCMS: Free CMS for Designers!

7:44pm
Well I’ll be damned.

“Faith in Humanity” = “Restored”

picture-1
A free CMS that looks ridiculously easy to use, the only problem I foresee is convincing my clients to pay…oh, wait, that’s right, it’s FREE. I would really love for this to be as good as it sounds. I’m going to apply this software to a client’s new site and see if it works nicely and if it does, how the client likes it.

Test Websites for Windows on a Mac

Ooooh boy, I knew this day would come.

http://litmusapp.com/alkaline/

A piece of software that shows your URLs in the 2 major Windows browsers for free. You can pay to see it in 15 more browsers. Their prices are ridiculous in my opinion. You’ll have paid for Parallels by the time you spend 3 months worth with a subscription to Litmus. And then you can actually run any Windows browser, not just look at screen shots. But, Litmus is handing out the big boys (IE7 and FireFox 2) for free, so props there. Worth checking out.

Godaddy Domain Discount Code

I just used this code “OYH3” to get $2.50 off of a domain purchase at www.godaddy.com. Just visit the site, add a domain to your cart and plop the code, then click “Apply Code.”

When this code becomes outdated, you can always search Google to find sites like this with a current working code list.

Internet Explorer 6

picture-1Oh the day has finally come, where a renowned Web software company, whose software I use and enjoy, is denying support for the hideous and evil mish-mash of programming called Internet Explorer 6. This browser has harassed designer and developer alike for years and I’ve often reluctantly spent many hours debugging for it instead of simply telling some of you (my dearest clients) to upgrade to IE7.

Suckerfish Dropdown (IE7 Solution)

Hey all, I’ve been implementing this dropdown for a while now and I’ve really fallen in love with it because I don’t have to mess with screwy JavaScript and you can get as creative as you want with the CSS (always a fun time). The problem is that you have to include a few lines of JS to make it work in IE6 and below (not IE7). But when IE7 came around we found out, sure enough, it supports more standards than its retarded little sibling.

LLC vs. Sole Proprietor

So this is what I found out about the legality of being a freelance designer. If you’re working solo, just remain a Sole Proprietor(SP). It has a nice ring to it, no? There is no tax benefit when you become an LLC or S-corp, in fact, in Ohio they will treat you the same a an SP because there is only on employee/owner. Plus, it’s free and you don’t have to file any papers unless you intend to do business under a different name than your legal one. Then you simply file your name for $50.00. In fact from the moment you make your first sale, you are technically an SP. Exciting, huh?
